First, the band are not named for the movie. This was a name I picked out 25+ years ago, because I found a picture of a weird looking cowboy in our giant family Merriam-Webster dictionary. I meant it in that fashion … “1 : one who wears cowboy clothes but has had no experience as a cowboy” (See all the m-w.com definitions.)
See, we’re primarily a cover band at the moment. We wear Rock Star clothes but have had no experience as Rock Stars. Anyway, he’s my Proposed Theme for the Band Drugstore Cowboy, whipped up in Sonar 7 this past weekend.
I used the new Drop Zone and Rapture Synths to get the “ahh-ahhs” and that sequencer-ish sound. The guitar and bass are through a Johnson J-Station. The bass is a 10 year old Squier Vista short scale, crunched up with gain from that J-Station. Drums on Demand provide the backbeat.
When the song ends, imagine we are kicking into our opening number, most likely The Offspring’s “Come out and Play.”
