What a wonderful bit of news I received today: my dear friend Raphael W. Bostic has been nominated to serve in President Obama’s Administration in the capacity of Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research in the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The “hands” in the first photo, and the longer hair in this photo, has stirred up speculation that it’s a raccoon.

Jumping right in. What the heck is it?

My bet is is that it’s a dog with the top part of its jaw broken off. Somebody floated this idea (at Gawker, I think). Were it’s paws lashed? Seems to be a sad result of some animal abuse I think.
